Like most Whirlpool microwaves, the GT285BL comes with a range of unique and interesting features. Probably the most important is Whirlpool’s “3D distribution system.” This is designed to cook food faster and more evenly by distributing the microwave energy from three separate points within the internal cavity.
The Whirlpool GT285BL Gusto microwave comes with a number of other features. These include a “crisp plate” system, jet grill function, jet defrost, jet start and “direct access” buttons. The Crisp system combines the quartz grill with the 3D microwave system to generate high temperatures within the microwave. This allows you to fry and bake food much faster. Jet Defrost is a system for defrosting food that’s up to five times faster – perfect for when you have unexpected guests.
While Whirlpool microwaves always have useful features, they also tend to have lower specifications than competitor’s models. The Whirlpool GT285BL Gusto is no exception. It comes with a 700W microwave output, which is a little lower than we’d expect for a microwave in this price bracket. The grill is also only 900W. In many cases the innovative features of Whirlpool microwaves makes up for this though.

While we’re big fans of other Whirlpool models such as the Max 35, we prefer the more traditional appearance of the GT285BL.

The Whirlpool GT285BL Gusto microwave with grill is a relatively new model at the time of writing, so it doesn’t have many reviews. In fact, on the shopping site we looked at, it only has a single review of 4 stars. The reviewer mentions that the microwave looks fantastic, although the back is dark grey unlike the rest of the microwave. Other comments include that the defrost function is fast and the jet crisp setting works well with chips.

We think the Whirlpool GT285BL Gusto 700W 25L microwave with grill is definitely a model to consider. If you need an attractive grill microwave with range of interesting features then the GT285BL certainly fits the bill. The only downside is its relatively low microwave output of 700W. An alternative option is the excellent Whirlpool Max 38 Crisp microwave.
