In-Depth Review
Design
At first glance, the microwave doesn’t appear to stand out in terms of appearance, although it’s certainly an attractive model. It’s built with a black exterior, five silver buttons and a dial, along with a digital display.
A nice feature is that the door has a mirrored finished (take a look at the image above to see what we mean). This gives it an extra aura of quality that you don’t find on many other machines, although the door is susceptible to fingerprints if not cleaned regularly.
Cooking Power
As you would expect from an 800W microwave, the model cooks relatively quickly. While it doesn’t match the power of more expensive models, for simple and convenient cooking the 800W power is perfect.
In addition, there are five power levels included with the model. These make it easy to tailor your cooking to different types of food.
Convenience Features
Aside from the five power levels, the model comes with several other convenience features. Most importantly it has several automatic cooking menus. These are designed for foods such as popcorn, pizza and fish, making it easy to cook your favourite meals.
This is a digital model, so it has a handy clock instead of a manual timer. Other features include a removable glass turntable, for easy cleaning, and a child lock for extra safety.
One thing to note is that the power lead is relatively short, at around one metre (according to reviewers). This means the microwave needs to be placed close to a plug socket.
Value for Money
As you can probably tell from this review, the Russell Hobbs RHM2076B black microwave doesn’t come with many advanced features. Even so, with an RRP of just £80, and many deals for considerably less than this, we think it provides excellent value for money – especially as it’s highly rated by buyers (more on that in a minute).
Selection of Russell Hobbs RHM2076B Review Quotes
Russell Hobbs RHM2076B reviews have been largely positive, with reviewers praising the model’s performance. Here is a selection of positive comments from reviewers:
- It has an attractive and modern appearance.
- It’s simple and intuitive to use due to the clearly labelled buttons.
- The model is also easy to clean on both the interior and exterior.
- Importantly, the microwave cooks food quickly compared to other similarly priced models.
- Perfect for a small family kitchen (although probably not suitable for larger households or professional establishments).
And some negative comments:
- With a 20 litre interior cavity, the microwave may not be suitable for larger items, such as baby bottle disinfectors.
- It requires you to set the power each time it’s used..
- It’s sometimes difficult to see inside the microwave due to its mirrored finish, which can make cooking porridge and similar foods difficult.
Conclusion
As a basic microwave for cooking, reheating and defrosting, you can’t go wrong with the Russell Hobbs RHM2076B solo microwave. It’s a stylish, if understated, model with all the features you need for everyday cooking and a reasonable 20 litre capacity.
While we wouldn’t recommend this model for a large family (you would need a bigger microwave or even a combination model), the RHM2076B has quickly become one of our top recommended solo microwaves.
